Education Services Grant: Texas PDSES Program for Special Education Students

The Parent-Directed Special Education Services (PDSES) program in Texas offers a valuable Education Services Grant to support students with disabilities. This $1,500 one-time grant helps families access essential educational resources and services. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the PDSES program, including eligibility requirements, application process, and available resources.

Understanding the PDSES Education Services Grant

The PDSES program, formerly known as the Supplemental Special Education Services (SSES) program, provides a $1,500 online grant to parents or guardians of eligible special education students enrolled in Texas public schools. This education services grant empowers families to purchase educational materials and resources, such as:

  • Textbooks and Curriculum: Supplementing classroom learning with specialized materials.
  • Technology Devices: Providing access to assistive technology and learning tools.
  • Specialized Services: Covering costs for additional speech therapy, tutoring, or other tailored support.

While the name has changed to better reflect parental involvement in educational decisions, the program remains the same. Students previously eligible for SSES remain eligible for the PDSES education services grant. However, students who already received an SSES grant are not eligible for PDSES.

Who is Eligible for the Education Services Grant?

The PDSES education services grant is a first-come, first-served opportunity, awarded only once per student. To qualify, a student must:

  • Current Enrollment: Be enrolled in a Texas public school from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
  • Special Education Services: Receive special education services under an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • No Prior Grant: Have not previously received a PDSES or SSES grant.
