KPMG is seeking a motivated Intern to join our Economic and Valuation Services team.
Responsibilities
As a Valuation Services Intern, you will:
- Apply sophisticated financial engineering, mathematical, econometric, and statistical methods, including Monte Carlo simulation and lattice models, to perform and review valuations of intricate financial instruments. This includes contingent consideration, put/call deal structures, stock compensation, warrants, financial derivatives (covering equity, interest rate, commodity, CPI, credit), embedded derivatives, debt, insurance contracts, convertible notes, and other hybrid instruments.
- Prepare and present clear, comprehensive documentation to support complex securities valuations for diverse stakeholders, including managers, clients, auditors, and regulators. Effectively communicate findings and methodologies.
- Contribute to the development, documentation, and refinement of valuation models used by the complex securities practice. Enhance existing models and create new tools for valuation analysis.
- Conduct thorough research to stay informed about current authoritative guidance and industry best practices related to valuations for financial reporting, tax compliance, and litigation support.
- Participate in training initiatives for team members and contribute to the go-to-market strategies of the complex securities valuation practice. Share your knowledge and contribute to team growth.
- Develop proficiency in key technologies that enhance client service delivery for tax professionals, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI. Utilize these tools to improve efficiency and insights.
Qualifications
To be considered for the Valuation Services Internship, you should:
- Be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing an advanced degree (preferred) or a Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Financial Engineering, Computational Finance, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative program.
- Have remaining academic credits to complete after the internship to obtain your degree.
- Possess a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Ideally have coursework or a minor in computer programming (e.g., VBA, C++, Python). Familiarity with Bloomberg, Fincad, Numerix, Matlab, and Intex is advantageous.
- Demonstrate familiarity with stochastic models used for valuing complex financial instruments within a risk-neutral framework.
- Exhibit knowledge of financial instruments, including fixed income securities, and interest rate and equity derivatives.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, time management, and leadership abilities. Be a flexible, adaptable team player with strong problem-solving skills to deliver high-quality work.
- Possess a demonstrated quality service mindset, strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Access, Power BI), Alteryx, Tableau, artificial intelligence (AI), and similar data analysis and visualization tools.
- Reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office for this position and be able to travel to work locations using personal transportation or public transit.
- Be capable of traveling and working on-site at client premises as needed, sometimes with short notice.
- Preferably have authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring employment-based visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
KPMG is committed to pay transparency and complies with all local/state regulations regarding salary ranges. The salary range for this position in California is $75,000 – $78,000. Offered salary will be based on factors including applicant’s skills, job responsibilities, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. KPMG provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package.
