Self-Care Supplies Available Twice Per Semester
For needs that arise periodically throughout the semester, McKinley Self-Care Stations offer a selection of items you can pick up twice per semester. These supplies are designed to help you manage common ailments and health concerns.
Cold Care Products
When cold symptoms strike, the self-care stations provide a variety of cold care medications to help you feel better. These include:
- Decongestants to clear a stuffy nose and help you breathe easier.
- Cough medicine to relieve chest congestion and soothe coughing.
- Acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain relief and fever reduction (please choose one).
- Halls throat lozenges to ease sore throat discomfort.
- Sore throat spray for targeted relief.
- Nasal decongestant spray for quick nasal passage clearing.
Please note that pseudoephedrine tablets are available only through clinician prescriptions.
Home Pregnancy Test Kit
For students needing pregnancy testing, the self-care stations offer discreet and accessible home pregnancy test kits. Each kit contains two tests for your convenience.
Yeast Infection Treatment Kit
Yeast infections are a common concern, and McKinley Self-Care Stations provide Yeast Infection Treatment Kits to address this. The kit includes materials to treat most vaginal yeast infections and alleviate associated symptoms like itching and irritation.
Wound Care Pack
Minor cuts and scrapes are a part of daily life. The Wound Care Pack is designed to help you handle these situations effectively. It contains a variety of bandages, gauze, ointment, and instructions for proper minor wound care.
Allergy Pack
Seasonal or sudden allergies can be disruptive. The Allergy Pack is available to help manage common allergy symptoms. It includes both long-acting (non-sedating) and short-acting (possibly sedating) antihistamines, along with tissues and hand sanitizer to combat symptoms like runny nose and sneezing.
Bi-Weekly Self-Care Essentials
Some self-care needs are more frequent. McKinley Self-Care Stations also provide items you can pick up every two weeks, focusing on sexual health and wellness.
Condom Pack
Promoting safe sex practices is important, and condom packs are readily available every two weeks. You can choose from five types of condoms to suit your preferences: lubricated, non-lubricated, non-latex, and extra-large options.
Lubricant or Spermicide Gel
Enhance sexual health and comfort with lubricant or spermicide gel, available for pick up every two weeks (choose one). Lubricant reduces friction during sexual activity, increasing pleasure and reducing the risk of condom breakage. Spermicide gel also reduces friction and contains a sperm-killing agent, offering some pregnancy protection but no STI protection. It is most effective when used with barrier methods. Remember, water-based and silicone-based lubricants are safe to use with latex condoms.
Latex Barriers
For protection during oral sex, latex barriers (dental dams) are available every two weeks. These barriers come in a variety of flavor-scented options, providing STI protection during oral stimulation of the vagina or anus.
Annual Self-Care Resources
Certain self-care resources are designed for less frequent replenishment. McKinley Self-Care Stations offer these items on an annual basis.
Sleep Pack
Quality sleep is vital for academic success and overall well-being. The Sleep Pack includes a variety of items and resources to help you improve your sleep routine. Items may include an eye mask, ear plugs, lavender wipes, and tea. You can replenish your sleep pack once per year when you run out of supplies. These packs are currently available only at the physical locations at McKinley and the Illini Union.
Narcan Nasal Spray
In line with prioritizing student safety, Narcan Nasal Spray is available once per year. Narcan is an opioid medication used to reverse or reduce the effects of an opioid overdose. Instructions for administration are included, and further information can be found at: Opioid Overdose Treatment – NARCAN® (naloxone HCl) Nasal Spray. Note: Staff can pick up NARCAN at the Illini Union HRC only.
