Service Bar Dc (SBCD), a new cocktail bar, is opening on U Street NW, offering a fresh take on affordable drinks in a stylish setting. Located at 926-928 U St. NW, across from El Rey, Service Bar DC aims to be a destination for cocktail enthusiasts and those seeking a lively atmosphere.
The team behind Service Bar DC boasts extensive experience in the DC bar scene. Owner Chris Willoughby, formerly of JIN and Mango’s, has partnered with bartenders Chad Spangler and Glendon Hartley of Menehune Group, a consulting firm known for developing innovative beverage programs for establishments like Ocopa, Provision 14, and Bonfire.
Service Bar DC embraces a playful “Cocktailery & Tomfoolery” theme, reflected in its eclectic decor, which includes ornate frames, a silver deer head, and vintage book pages. The 48-seat space features vibrant blue walls and warm wooden accents, creating a welcoming ambiance.
The cocktail menu at Service Bar DC will showcase seasonal and rotating creations inspired by the team’s travels. Signature drinks like “The Italian Bubble Coat,” a bottled and boxed cocktail with Limonata, Eucalyptus-infused Maraschino, Menehune Tonic Syrup, Clarified OJ, and Gin, promise a unique drinking experience.
A unique feature of Service Bar DC is the “Snug Room,” a six-seat tasting room offering an exclusive cocktail list. Inspired by 18th-century pub culture, this intimate bar-within-a-bar concept provides a cozy setting for enjoying innovative drinks like the “Hipster in Heaven,” featuring mint, vanilla, lemon, Fernet, stout, and Brandy.
