Empowering Equipment Maintenance: John Deere Service Advisor Now Directly Available

For John Deere equipment owners and independent repair professionals, gaining expert-level insight into machinery just got easier. John Deere is pleased to announce that Service Advisor, the comprehensive Customer Service ADVISOR™ diagnostic and repair tool, is now available for direct purchase in the U.S. through JohnDeereStore.com.

This subscription-based digital database, known as Customer Service ADVISOR™, provides users with access to Operator, Diagnostic, and Technical manuals for a wide range of John Deere products. It mirrors the functionality of the Service ADVISOR™ system utilized by John Deere dealerships and technicians, offering a robust platform for equipment understanding and maintenance, with the primary exceptions being software updates, remote access features, and DTAC solutions.

According to Denver Caldwell, Director Aftermarket & Customer Support at John Deere, this move is in direct response to evolving customer needs. “We’re seeing a significant increase in customers proactively utilizing the resources and parts John Deere provides to manage their own equipment maintenance,” Caldwell stated. “Customer Service ADVISOR is designed to empower these individuals by providing deeper insights into system levels, enabling them to confidently undertake more complex repairs themselves.”

The availability of Customer Service ADVISOR has expanded progressively over the years. Initially launched through John Deere Construction & Forestry dealerships in 2011, it broadened to other divisions in 2017. Now, John Deere is making it directly accessible via JohnDeereStore.com, offering both online web-based and downloadable application subscriptions to cater to diverse customer requirements. While this new avenue for access is available, customers still retain the option to seek support from John Deere dealerships or independent repair shops.

Understanding the Capabilities: Web vs. Downloaded Service Advisor Subscriptions

For users considering a subscription, it’s important to understand the capabilities offered by each version:

Web-Only Subscription (Agriculture, Turf, Construction & Forestry, and John Deere Power Systems):

  • Anytime Access: Users can access the comprehensive digital database of Operator, Diagnostic, and Technical manuals on laptops or mobile devices whenever they have a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. This ensures information is readily available when and where it’s needed.

Downloaded Application Subscription (Agriculture, Turf, Construction & Forestry, and John Deere Power Systems):

  • Online and Offline Access: Provides the same online access as the web-only subscription.
  • Enhanced Diagnostic Capabilities: When paired with a capable laptop and a Customer Service ADVISOR™ downloaded application subscription, users gain significant additional capabilities:
    • Offline Operation: Access manuals and diagnostic information even without internet connectivity.
    • Direct Machine Connection: Connect to equipment using an Electronic Data Link (EDL).
    • Code Management: Clear and refresh diagnostic trouble codes.
    • Diagnostic Data Retrieval: Take precise diagnostic readings to pinpoint issues.
    • Limited Calibrations: Perform specific calibration procedures.

While the extensive capabilities of Customer Service ADVISOR offer significant advantages, John Deere emphasizes the importance of proper training, typically provided by the customer’s dealer. As Caldwell points out, “While dealer-led training is recommended to fully leverage Customer Service ADVISOR, providing customers with access to deeper insights and the ability to handle more advanced repairs themselves offers greater flexibility and a more comprehensive understanding of their John Deere equipment.”

John Deere’s commitment to enhancing customer solutions is ongoing. In 2023, they introduced an improved customer interface for mobile devices and the ability to download secure software updates directly to embedded controllers on select John Deere equipment with 4G MTG connections, further solidifying their dedication to user empowerment.

The direct availability of the Customer Service ADVISOR™ tool underscores John Deere’s unwavering commitment to maximizing customer uptime and promoting equipment repairability. By providing this powerful resource directly to customers and independent repair shops, John Deere is fostering greater control, efficiency, and knowledge in equipment maintenance and repair.
