Volunteer with Prairie Legal Services: Provide Virtual Legal Advice and Expand Access to Justice

Prairie Legal Services (PSLS) is excited to announce a unique pro bono opportunity for family law attorneys to make a significant impact through our virtual legal advice clinic. This innovative project is designed to connect volunteer attorneys with pre-qualified clients in need of family law guidance within our 36-county service area. By participating, you can directly contribute to expanding access to justice while leveraging a convenient and efficient virtual platform.

Offer Your Expertise in Family Law Through Virtual Clinics

This initiative specifically targets family law professionals who are passionate about providing crucial legal advice to individuals who might otherwise go without assistance. The virtual clinic model simplifies the pro bono process for attorneys, requiring only a one-hour commitment per session. This focused approach allows you to offer your expertise without the demands of ongoing representation or court appearances.

The structure of the Prairie Legal Services virtual clinic is designed for efficiency and impact. We handle client vetting, registration, and confirmation in advance. This pre-screening process ensures that your volunteer time is dedicated solely to providing legal advice to those who genuinely qualify for and need Prairie Legal Services’ support. All you need to do is log in virtually at your scheduled time and offer your professional guidance on domestic relations matters.

Serve Clients Across a Broad Range of Family Law Needs

The clients you will assist through this virtual clinic reside within Prairie Legal Services’ extensive 36-county service area. They are pre-qualified to receive free legal aid based on PSLS and our funders’ policies. The cases presented can encompass a wide spectrum of family law issues, both pre- and post-decree. You may encounter situations involving divorce, child-related matters, asset and liability division, support questions, contempt and enforcement issues, and various other domestic relations concerns. Your expertise as a family law attorney will be invaluable in helping clients navigate these complex situations, even if they are unsure of the precise legal terminology or issues involved.

Flexible and Impactful Volunteer Commitment

Participating in the Prairie Legal Services virtual clinic is straightforward and flexible. Attorneys can sign up for one or more one-hour slots during our designated clinic hours. Currently, we plan to host monthly clinics, scheduled for the fourth Friday of each month. However, with strong participation from law firms and individual attorneys, we aim to increase the frequency of these clinics, further expanding our reach and impact within the community.

This is an exceptional opportunity to provide vital legal advice within the realm of prairie legal services, directly impacting individuals in need while managing a manageable time commitment. While the project is structured around providing one-time advice, you may find certain cases particularly compelling and choose to explore further representation at your discretion.
