Michael was born on December 8, 1993, in La Porte, Indiana, to Barbara (Kurpiel) Knotts and raised by her and Robert Nowatzke. He was a beloved son, brother, partner, and friend who touched the lives of many with his vibrant spirit and generous heart.

A Life Well-Lived: Celebrating Michael Knotts

A lifelong resident of La Porte, Michael graduated from South Central High School in Union Mills in 2012. During his time in high school, he played football as a strong safety, showcasing his dedication and teamwork. He recently achieved success as a Journeyman Carpenter for Carpenters Local 1485 in October and was a valued employee at Reith-Riley. Known for his strong work ethic and positive attitude, Michael was a cherished member of his work community.

Michael’s infectious smile earned him the nickname “Smiley.” He was always ready with a kind word or helping hand, uplifting others with his charisma and genuine desire to help those in need. He dreamed of visiting New York City, reflecting his “city boy” spirit. He loved spending time with friends, enjoying activities like snowboarding in Colorado, camping, kayaking, and hiking.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Michael was a loyal fan of the Seattle Seahawks and the Ohio Buckeyes. His sense of humor was legendary; he was always the life of the party, brightening any room he entered. Michael took pride in his appearance, known for his meticulous style. He enjoyed listening to rap music, particularly his favorite artist, Future. The calming sound of rain and the sparkling winter snow brought him peace.

Above all, Michael cherished his family and friends. He was a beacon of light in their lives, leaving an enduring legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. His generous spirit and zest for life will be deeply missed.

Knotts Funeral Service Details and Arrangements

Michael leaves behind his parents, Barbara and Robert; his sister, Danielle (Kevin Scott) Knotts of North Liberty, IN, and her children, Lillyann, Junior, Mia, and grandchild, Myles; his twin brother, Timothy Knotts of Union Mills, IN; his girlfriend of two years, Paytyn Abbring of Wheatfield, IN; bonus parents, Trish (Don) Poort and Rhonda (Joe) Polick; five bonus brothers; aunts, uncles, and a large extended family, including the L&D family and his union brothers and sisters from Carpenter’s Local 1485. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Knotts funeral service arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located at 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 11 a.m. until the service time at 2 p.m., officiated by Tim Ahlemeyer. Cremation will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Michael’s name to Riley Children’s Hospital, La Porte County Small Animal Shelter, or the Salvation Army in La Porte. These organizations reflect Michael’s compassionate nature and his desire to help others.
