A 70-year-old man seeking affordable internet service was lured into a “Free Phone And Service” offer that quickly turned into a financial nightmare. After signing up for an essentials program to lower his internet bill, he was offered a free iPhone with free service from Xfinity Mobile. However, the phone proved unusable due to its small size and unfamiliar interface.

Returning the “Free” Phone Proves Costly

Despite returning the phone within the 14-day trial period, the senior citizen faced a series of frustrating obstacles. The “find my phone” feature, unknowingly activated by an Xfinity store technician, prevented the phone from being properly reset. This initiated a lengthy process involving numerous calls to customer service and a delayed password reset from Apple.

After finally disabling the “find my phone” feature, obtaining a return shipping label proved equally challenging. Repeated assurances from Xfinity Mobile representatives went unfulfilled, forcing the senior to pay for return shipping himself via FedEx.

Unauthorized Charges and Lack of Resolution

Despite returning the phone, Xfinity Mobile charged the man $429.99 without authorization. He has spent countless hours contacting customer service, only to be met with empty promises of resolution. While representatives repeatedly assured him the refund was being processed, the money remains outstanding two months later. The company acknowledges receipt of the returned phone, yet the unauthorized charge remains.
