Farm Credit Services of America: Nourishing Rural Communities

Farm Credit Services Of America (FCSAmerica) plays a vital role in supporting farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. Beyond providing financial services, FCSAmerica actively combats hunger through impactful partnerships and initiatives. A key example is their long-standing collaboration with Food Bank for the Heartland.

FCSAmerica’s commitment to fighting hunger aligns with their core values. “Our pillars of giving include hunger and nutrition,” explains Jessica Strohman, community relations manager at FCSAmerica. This commitment translates into volunteer work, monetary donations, and food rescue efforts.

Since 2013, FCSAmerica has partnered with Food Bank for the Heartland to expand the reach of the Mobile Pantry Program. This program delivers free shelf-stable and perishable food to communities with limited access to resources. With FCSAmerica’s extensive network of 48 local offices across Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming, the partnership effectively serves overlapping rural communities. This synergy allows both organizations to leverage their resources to combat hunger in food deserts.

FCSAmerica’s involvement extends beyond financial support. They actively manage mobile pantry logistics, including unloading trucks and distributing food packages. To date, the partnership has provided over 485,000 pounds of food to nearly 50 rural communities.

This consistent dedication fosters trust within the community. Lea Frank, Manager of Network and Community Support at the Food Bank, praises FCSAmerica’s employees for their genuine care and commitment to serving with dignity and respect.

The impact of the partnership resonates deeply within FCSAmerica. Employees eagerly anticipate opportunities to volunteer and assist with mobile pantries, demonstrating their dedication to serving their communities.

Beyond the Mobile Pantry Program, FCSAmerica employees volunteered over 430 hours at the Food Bank’s Volunteer Center in 2022. They also contributed a $100,000 matching gift to the Shine the Light on Hunger campaign, amplifying their impact on hunger relief.

Driven by its farmer and rancher ownership, FCSAmerica understands the importance of feeding the world. Their ongoing commitment to fighting hunger exemplifies their dedication to nourishing rural communities and strengthening the agricultural heartland. FCSAmerica recognizes that the fight against hunger requires continuous effort and collaboration.
