Mr. Curran’s distinguished 23-year career in law enforcement is characterized by exceptional leadership and a proven track record of success. He has consistently demonstrated expertise in directing complex security operations, most notably in the planning and execution of security protocols for National Special Security Events, events of immense scale and significance. His innovative approach to protective methodologies was evident during the 2024 Presidential Campaign, where he effectively implemented cutting-edge strategies for site visits and events. Furthermore, his adept management of financial resources, personnel, and logistical coordination during the 2016 Presidential Debates showcased his comprehensive leadership capabilities. These large-scale events demanded seamless collaboration with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, the management of a multi-million dollar budget, and the strategic deployment of over 400 Special Agents.
Prior to his appointment as Director of the United States Secret Service, Mr. Curran held the critical position of Special Agent in Charge of the Donald Trump Detail. In this highly demanding role, he was responsible for the comprehensive physical protection strategy for the 45th President across multiple states. This assignment required decisive executive leadership, innovative problem-solving, adaptability, and resourceful allocation of resources in a constantly evolving environment.
Mr. Curran’s journey with the Secret Service began in September 2001, when he joined the Newark Field Office as a Special Agent. During his initial assignment, he gained valuable experience in a broad spectrum of Secret Service operations, including protective details, intelligence gathering, criminal investigations, recruitment initiatives, and logistical support within the district.
From 2008 to 2013, Mr. Curran served in the Presidential Protective Division within the Office of Protective Operations. This prestigious assignment placed him at the forefront of presidential security, where he was directly involved in providing close protection to the President of the United States and the First Family at the White House, during domestic travel, and on international trips. This experience was instrumental in preparing him for subsequent leadership roles, including Assistant to the Special Agent in Charge of the Dignitary Protective Division (2014-2016) and the Washington Field Office (2016-2018). In these positions, he directed rapid response teams to critical incidents throughout Washington, D.C., and the National Capital Region, demonstrating his ability to manage high-pressure situations effectively.
In 2018, Mr. Curran’s career advanced further with his promotion to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protective Division.
