Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Friday, August 13, 2021, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Born on March 14, 1949, in East Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama, Henry Oliver “Black” Hardwick was the son of the late Gussie (Corbin) Hardwick and the late Joseph T. Robinson. From his early years, Henry embraced his faith in Christ at Antioch United Methodist Church in Attalla, nurturing a lifelong relationship with his Lord and Savior.

Henry spent his formative years in East Gadsden, building lasting bonds with childhood friends and family before moving to Attalla with his mother and brother. He completed his education at Norris High School, graduating in May 1969, setting the stage for a life marked by service and passion.

A true embodiment of strength and dedication, Henry proudly served his country in the United States Army. His honorable service included a tour in Vietnam, reflecting his commitment to duty and his nation. Upon returning home, Henry dedicated himself to providing for his family, undertaking various roles that showcased his strong work ethic and responsibility. Beyond his professional life, Henry pursued his deep-seated passion for music. A talented drummer, he performed with Willie Hightower and the Power Tower Band, sharing his musical gifts and bringing joy to audiences. His vocal talents were equally impressive; Henry possessed a beautiful singing voice and was always happy to share a song, readily serenading loved ones on their birthdays or upon request.

Henry lived a life characterized by authenticity and directness. His straightforward approach to life and conversations were hallmarks of his personality, always delivered with vigor and sincerity. Those fortunate enough to know Henry were drawn to his genuine nature and warm heart. His love for his family was immense and unwavering, ensuring their well-being and happiness was always a priority. This boundless love extended to his friendships, particularly evident during his spontaneous “tri-city tours” from Conyers, Georgia, to Birmingham and Attalla, often fueled by a breakfast stop at Waffle House.

Despite facing a recurrent battle with cancer over several years, Henry confronted each challenge with remarkable resilience and optimism. His characteristic positive outlook shone through even during difficult times. When asked about his well-being, his typical reply, “I’m good right now, cause I’m talking to you, darlin’,” exemplified his ability to find joy and connection in every moment.

Henry lived life to the fullest until his final moments. On the morning of Thursday, August 12th, surrounded by his loving family in his home, he peacefully answered his final call.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Huelon Hardwick, Sr., his sister, Clarissa Childs, his daughter, Michelle Wright, and his nephew, Huelon Hardwick, Jr.

His legacy of love and devotion continues through his son, Stephen (Dionne) Hardwick of Birmingham, AL; daughters, Tonia Graves of Huntsville, AL, and Allison (Kenneth) Mallard of Conyers, GA; Kevin Duncan of Decatur, GA, who he loved as a son; grandchildren, Cie’dah, Zoe, Jazzmin, Ellisa, and grands-in-love, Kenneth, Dominique, Rauslyn, Curtis, Youneek; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph (Gloria) Robinson, Lacey Robinson (Karen), all of Gadsden, AL; sister, JoNetta (Zino) Terry of Birmingham, AL; sister-in-law, Thelma Hardwick of Attalla, AL; nieces and nephews, Simira, Erwin, Joel (Kellie), Huelanda (Marty), Jessica, Al JeRah, Jenay, Xavier, Lindsey, Lauren, Victor, and Zena; numerous great-nieces and nephews; cherished confidants and friends, Rev.
