The Highlander Hub is set to revolutionize how students interact with Maryville College. Moving beyond the capabilities of the former Maryville Self Service, the Highlander Hub delivers a centralized hub for essential student tasks. Students will now utilize this portal for everything from course registration and grade checking to monitoring their degree progress and managing on-campus housing applications. This transition marks a leap forward in providing efficient and accessible self-service options for the Maryville College community.

Key Improvements with the Highlander Hub

The move from Maryville Self Service to the Highlander Hub brings forth several key improvements, all aimed at creating a smoother and more integrated experience:

  • Centralized Student Information: The Highlander Hub consolidates student records and communications into one easily accessible platform, eliminating the need to navigate multiple systems as was sometimes the case with Maryville Self Service.
  • Modern and Mobile-Friendly Portal: Recognizing the needs of today’s students and parents, the Highlander Hub is designed with a modern, mobile-first approach. This ensures seamless access and functionality across all devices, a significant upgrade from the potentially less responsive interface of Maryville Self Service.
  • Enhanced Course and Grade Viewing: Students will find viewing course information and grades more intuitive and efficient within the Highlander Hub. The new system offers improved clarity and organization compared to the previous Maryville Self Service.
  • Fully Integrated Academic Advising Tools: Academic advising is now seamlessly integrated within the Highlander Hub, providing students with comprehensive tools and resources to support their academic planning and progress.

Important Information for Families Previously Using Maryville Self Service

For family members who have previously utilized Maryville Self Service, particularly for bill payments or to view student academic information, it’s important to understand the timeline and upcoming changes:

  • Transition Awareness: Starting in Fall 2024, students are being informed about the transition from Maryville Self Service to the Highlander Hub.
  • Maryville Self Service Retirement: The old Maryville Self Service system will officially go offline on October 11th. After this date, it will no longer be accessible.
  • Highlander Hub Launch: The new Highlander Hub portal will be launched in mid-November, becoming the central platform for student self-service needs.
  • Spring 2025 Billing Information: Students will receive detailed information regarding Spring 2025 bill payments via email around mid-November, coinciding with the Highlander Hub launch.
  • Student-Centric Access for Fall ’24 and Spring ’25: Initially, during the Fall 2024 and the first part of the Spring 2025 semesters, the Highlander Hub will primarily be accessible to students.

Changes to Bill Payment Procedures for Spring 2025

For families accustomed to paying bills through Maryville Self Service, the process for Spring 2025 bills will require collaboration with their student. Here are the options for bill payment via the Highlander Hub:

  • Direct Payment with Student Involvement: Family members may need to work directly with their student. This could involve assisting the student in entering credit card or bank details on the student’s device.

  • Information Sharing for Student Input: Alternatively, family members can provide payment information (card or banking details) to the student over the phone for the student to securely input into their Highlander Hub account.

  • Funds Transfer to Student: Another option is to transfer funds to the student’s bank account, enabling the student to make the payment directly through the Highlander Hub.

  • Traditional Payment Methods: Families can still send payments via check or money order, either to the student or directly to the Maryville College Business Office. Ensure the student’s full legal name and student ID number are included on any mailed payments to:

    Maryville College
    Attn: Business Office
    502 E Lamar Alexander Parkway
    Maryville, TN 37804

Please note that a $35 NSF fee applies to returned checks, and post-dated checks are not accepted.

For general billing inquiries, please refer to the Student Statements FAQ. For specific issues, utilize the Contact Us form and select the Business Office, or email [email protected].

Accessing Student Courses and Grades: Transition Period

While the parent/family access feature within the Highlander Hub is under development, accessing student course and grade information will temporarily require direct communication with your student. In Spring 2025, students will gain the ability to invite family members to view specific data they choose to share, in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

For questions regarding student records and FERPA, please consult the Registrar section of the Maryville College website.

Conclusion

The transition from Maryville Self Service to the Highlander Hub represents Maryville College’s commitment to providing students and their families with an enhanced, modern, and efficient self-service experience. While there are temporary adjustments during this transition, particularly for family access and bill payments, the long-term benefits of the Highlander Hub will significantly improve student administration and communication. Maryville College appreciates your patience and understanding as we implement this exciting upgrade to our systems.
