Legacy’s roots trace back to 1978 with the founding of the Montrose Clinic, initially focused on sexually transmitted disease prevention and treatment for gay men. As the AIDS crisis emerged, the clinic quickly adapted, pioneering HIV testing and counseling programs. In 1988, The Assistance Fund was established to provide financial aid for HIV-positive individuals. These two organizations merged in 2005, forming Legacy Community Health Services.

Expanding Reach and Services
The mid-2000s saw significant expansion for Legacy. A satellite clinic opened in Houston’s Fifth Ward in 2006, followed by the acquisition of a CHRISTUS Health clinic in Southwest Houston in 2010. These expansions broadened Legacy’s reach, enabling them to offer comprehensive care including adult and pediatric primary care, OB/GYN, behavioral health, dental, and vision services. Further expansion into Baytown and Beaumont in 2012 brought Legacy’s services to even more underserved communities.
