Starbucks Services are not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect, sell, or share personal information from children under 13, nor do we intentionally collect, sell, or share information of consumers between the ages of 13 and 16. Many Starbucks stores offer complimentary wireless internet (Wi-Fi) access. When using Starbucks Wi-Fi, please carefully review the terms of use displayed on the activation page before accepting and connecting to ensure you understand the terms of service.

12. Your Choices & Rights, including State-Specific Rights

Starbucks is committed to providing you with choices and rights regarding your personal information. Depending on your location, you may have specific rights as detailed below.

(a) Your Choices

  • Location Services: Certain Starbucks Services, such as mobile order and pay (MOP) and location-based features, require access to your device’s location. You can enable location services within the Starbucks App and/or adjust your device permissions to allow location sharing. Sharing your location allows us to customize your in-store experiences, assess marketing effectiveness, tailor messages based on location and time patterns, and manage the frequency of promotional messages. Precise geolocation may be used to provide specific application functionalities you choose to engage with. You can manage these settings at any time through your device settings.

    You can disable geolocation collection by turning off location services in your device settings. For assistance, contact your mobile device service provider or manufacturer. Note that disabling location services may affect the functionality of certain Starbucks App features and Services. You can re-enable location services at any time through your device settings.

  • Voice Ordering: To use voice ordering features, you must enable microphone and speech recognition permissions in the Starbucks App and/or adjust your device settings accordingly.

  • Email Communications, Push Notifications, and In-App Messages: The Starbucks App allows you to manage your preferences for receiving promotional emails, push notifications, and in-app messages from Starbucks. You can opt-out of promotional emails at any time by adjusting your Starbucks online account settings or by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in promotional emails. Opting out of promotional emails does not prevent transactional communications about your orders or accounts. Note that opting out of promotional emails does not automatically opt you out of marketing text messages if you have separately opted-in to receive them.

  • Text Messages: For certain Starbucks Services, you may consent to receive automated marketing text messages. You can opt-out at any time by replying STOP, END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, or QUIT to any marketing text message you receive. Opting out of text messages does not affect your promotional email preferences.

By using Starbucks App features like location services or voice ordering, you consent to the transmission, recording, processing, and storage of your user information by Starbucks and its agents, as necessary for feature administration and purposes described in this Notice.

13. Notice of Financial Incentive & Starbucks® Rewards

Starbucks® Rewards is designed to thank our loyal customers for choosing Starbucks. Members earn “Stars” for purchases, redeemable for various Starbucks benefits at participating stores. To join Starbucks® Rewards, sign up online or via the Starbucks App and agree to the Starbucks Rewards Terms of Use available at https://www.starbucks.com/rewards/terms.

To operate Starbucks® Rewards, we collect and use personal information as detailed in the “Information We Collect” section, including volunteered information, automatically collected data, and data from other sources. This information helps us manage the program, send promotions, personalize offers, and for other uses described in this Notice. We collaborate with service providers and business partners, including delivery services, global licensees, subsidiaries, affiliates, and other service providers to deliver Starbucks® Rewards benefits. Details about our business partners are in the “How We Disclose Your Information” section. Starbucks does not assign a direct monetary value to the data collected through Starbucks® Rewards for email communications. You can opt out of promotional emails via your online account settings or the “unsubscribe” link in emails. Participation in Starbucks® Rewards is voluntary. You can withdraw by visiting the Account section in the Starbucks App, requesting data deletion via HERE, or by contacting customer service. Upon withdrawal, you will lose access to your Starbucks® Rewards account and any accumulated points or rewards. To provide Starbucks® Rewards services, we require your personal information; therefore, deleting your data will also remove you from the program.

We estimate that Starbucks® Rewards provides value through increased customer loyalty and repeat business, though the specific value varies per member based on their purchase behavior and offer utilization.

14. Additional Disclosures for Data Subjects in the EEA, the U.K., and Switzerland

This section provides information for individuals in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom (U.K.), and Switzerland (collectively “EEA” for this section) regarding personal data processing under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and its local implementations. This section supplements, and does not supersede, any privacy policy of an EEA-based Starbucks affiliate, which acts as the data controller for your personal data within its jurisdiction.

(a) Lawful Bases of Processing: When Starbucks acts as a data controller, determining the purposes and means of processing your personal data, we ensure we have a lawful basis for processing. These bases include:

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has jurisdiction over Starbucks’ compliance with the EU-U.S. DPF, the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF, and the Swiss-U.S. DPF. Starbucks may be required to disclose personal data in response to lawful requests from public authorities, including for national security or law enforcement purposes.

In compliance with the DPF, Starbucks commits to refer unresolved complaints concerning DPF-related data handling to TRUSTe, a U.S.-based alternative dispute resolution provider.
