Many fondly remember Joan for her exceptional culinary skills, and her delicious cooking was a source of joy for those around her. A warm and sociable individual, Joan never met a stranger, embracing everyone she encountered with open arms and genuine interest.
Family was at the heart of Joan’s world. She deeply cherished her loved ones, especially her son, Michael, whom she considered the love and light of her life. Her three grandchildren held a special place in her heart; they affectionately called her Mawmaw and created cherished memories making bubbles on her porch. Beyond her family, Joan was an enthusiastic supporter of the Virginia Tech Hokies and remained connected to her roots as a graduate of MSHS class of ’65. She was an active member of the Quilt Guild, VGEA, and the First United Methodist Women’s Circle, reflecting her diverse interests and community involvement.
However, Joan’s true passion lay in education, specifically teaching science. As Mrs. Minnick, she inspired countless students, sharing her love for the galaxy and leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Her legacy as a dedicated educator will long be remembered and cherished by those fortunate enough to have been her students.
