Expatriate Services Division Updates: Visa Endorsement at KLIA

October 8, 2024 Update: The Expatriate Services Division Satellite Centre at Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s Terminal M has resumed the collection of visa endorsement pass stickers. This is a positive development for expatriates needing to finalize their visa processes upon arrival in Malaysia.

August 16, 2024 Context: Previously, the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) Satellite Center at KLIA 1 temporarily suspended pass sticker collections. During this period, foreign nationals were required to collect their stickers at the Expats Service Centre in Cyberjaya. This suspension, although temporary, potentially affected various application processes managed by the Expatriate Services Division. For those seeking to complete visa endorsements at the KLIA1 ESD Satellite Center during the suspension, the recommended procedure was to finalize the process at the Immigration Department and choose the Pass Endorsement Delivery option. This alternative method typically extended the processing time to approximately seven to ten business days. Consequently, this delayed the immediate commencement of work for expatriates upon their arrival in Malaysia.

May 13, 2024 Background: Earlier in 2024, the ESD (Expatriate Services Division) Satellite Centre at Terminal M of Kuala Lumpur International Airport faced technical difficulties. These technical issues impacted travelers attempting to complete their visa endorsement procedures. Several Employment Pass (EP) endorsement applications at the ESD Satellite Centre were returned to applicants. MYXPatsCenter advised applicants to complete their visa endorsement at the Immigration Department and opt for the Pass Endorsement Delivery service, which, as mentioned, takes around 7-10 business days. This process differed significantly from the same-day collection service usually available at the Expatriate Services Division Satellite Centre. Because work authorization in Malaysia is contingent upon the completion of the visa endorsement process, specifically the EP endorsement in the passport, this delivery method caused delays in expatriates’ ability to begin working immediately after arriving in Malaysia. The duration of these technical issues was not specified at the time.

Now, with the resumption of sticker collection at Terminal M as of October 8, 2024, expatriates can once again anticipate a more streamlined visa endorsement process at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. It is always advisable to check for the most current updates from the Expatriate Services Division or relevant Malaysian government sources before traveling.
