Kelly Ruemmele, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Hidalgo Medical Services, specializing in child health and mental health services
Hidalgo Medical Services is pleased to welcome Kelly Ruemmele, a highly experienced and dedicated Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, to our growing team. With 30 years of nursing experience and a profound commitment to children’s health, Kelly brings a wealth of knowledge and a compassionate approach to patient care at Hidalgo Medical Services.
Kelly earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UTMB in 1994, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Track, also from UTMB in 2000. Her extensive education and certifications, including being a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-PC) and a Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialist (PMHS), underscore her dedication to providing comprehensive and specialized care for young patients at Hidalgo Medical Services.
For the past three years, Kelly has focused on developmental pediatrics, expertly diagnosing and managing conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and anxiety and depression in children. This experience is invaluable to Hidalgo Medical Services as we strive to offer comprehensive mental health services alongside primary care. Prior to this specialized role, Kelly spent five years initiating pediatric primary care services at the largest UTMB Regional Maternal Child Health clinic, demonstrating her commitment to accessible healthcare for all families, a mission deeply aligned with the values of Hidalgo Medical Services. Her dedication extends to advocating for full practice authority for nurse practitioners, serving as a Texas Nurse Practitioner Legislative Ambassador.
Beyond her clinical practice, Kelly has a passion for education, having taught undergraduate and graduate nursing studies at UTMB, Texas Woman’s University, and College of the Mainland. Her diverse clinical background also includes newborn nursery and experience across various subspecialties at Texas Children’s Hospital, providing a well-rounded perspective to her practice at Hidalgo Medical Services.
Kelly’s commitment to mental health services is further highlighted by her PMHS certification, requiring over 800 behavioral clinical hours. She is actively involved in a REACH Fellowship and the SAFETY-A Suicide Prevention Cohort, continuously expanding her expertise in crucial areas of child wellbeing. Her advocacy extends to promoting the “Start School Later” initiative, recognizing the importance of adequate sleep for children’s health and academic success. As a strong proponent of preventative care, Kelly participated as a “Shot at Life” Washington DC Delegate in 2023, advocating for vaccine access and awareness.
Kelly is enthusiastic about returning to primary pediatric care at Hidalgo Medical Services, where she can build lasting relationships with parents and families. She is passionate about empowering parents to navigate the school system and supporting children’s healthy development, aligning perfectly with the family-centered approach at Hidalgo Medical Services.
Personally, Kelly has three college-aged children attending Texas A&M University, with interests ranging from Biochemistry to Engineering. She enjoys reading, traveling, estate sales, and exploring the outdoors, particularly looking forward to spending time in New Mexico and contributing to the community served by Hidalgo Medical Services.
